US Public Finance-Credit Analyst; Associate Director-Community Development & Social Lending (CDSL)

USPF CDSL Team is currently seeking an Associate Director based out of our Chicago or San Francisco office.

Fitch Ratings is seeking a self-motivated, inquisitive professional with capital market/fixed income experience or other credit-relevant experience for the CDSL team within the US Public Finance group. The candidate must be able to work independently, with preference given for knowledge of community development financial institutions (CDFIs) and/or state housing finance agencies (SHFAs). The position can be located in Chicago, IL or San Francisco, CA.

We\'ll Count on You To:
  • Produce thoughtful analysis and timely publication on portfolio of public and private ratings for CDFIs, SHFAs, military housing projects, affordable housing loan programs, and other similar credits. Present rating recommendations to committee of analysts; participate in rating committee deliberations.
  • Gather and analyze quantitative and qualitative data, contracts and legal documents for the purpose of producing ratings, publishing credit reports, and contributing to special research reports.
  • Participate alongside senior analysts in meetings with management teams, investment bankers and financial advisors working in CDSL subsectors.
  • Identify relevant trends, assess their credit impact and highlight these trends in updated industry and market focused reports/presentations.
  • Some travel required; hybrid work schedule requires staff to be in the office at least three days/week.
What You Need to Have:
  • Work experience of 5-7 years in public finance and/or real estate finance analysis; solid financial statement analysis skills.
  • Candidate will ideally possess an undergraduate and graduate degree in Finance, Business or Accounting or other Relevant Sector (public policy, real estate finance); additional years of work experience beyond the minimum may be substituted in lieu of a graduate degree.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work independently, seek answers/assistance as needed, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced, transaction-oriented environment.
  • Ability to apply Fitch criteria with a high level of independence and integrity.

  • Current or previous experience working at or with CDFIs.
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm for synthesizing complex information and concepts into straightforward, concise and insightful analysis.
  • Strong curiosity about the CDSL sector\'s regulatory and operational environment and municipal finance.
  • Ability to process, understand and interpret relevant quantitative data accurately.
  • Willingness to contribute to a positive work environment; work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Strong numbers and data background; developed communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.

FOR NEW YORK AND CALIFORNIA ROLES ONLY: Expected base pay salary range for this role is $95,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual salaries will be determined on an individualized basis and may vary based on factors including but not limited to education, training, experience, past performance, and other job-related factors. Base pay is one part of Fitch\'s total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, discretionary bonuses, long-term incentives, and other benefits sponsored by Fitch.
