Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant provides direct support to Pet Central Helps! Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians. This is a fast-paced position that requires commitment to our mission and a love of learning. We are seeking a talented individual who is interested in Shelter Medicine and the opportunity to build their skillset to the fullest. The VA works directly with the PCH! Veterinary Medical Team, Adoptions Team, Foster Team, Volunteer Team, Animal Care Specialists, and Office Staff. We prefer a minimum of six months' veterinary assisting or related experience.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Surgical preparation and assisting, veterinary exam assisting, new animal intake duties, and kennel assisting as needed. Preparation of heartworm/flea prevention & other medications as necessary, scheduling medical tests/vaccines, completion of tests in our laboratory, and medical record input to our shelter software. Scheduling and completion of vaccination/wellness appointments for shelter and foster animals. Daily nursing care for medical cases. Performance of duties such as proper animal restraint, vaccinations, deworming, microchip implantation, blood draws, etc. Cleaning of surgical, laboratory and associated areas, stocking necessary medical items, and maintenance of veterinary and laboratory equipment. Other duties as necessary. Current schedule we need to cover is Sunday 8-5 (lunch 12-1), Monday 9-3:30 (lunch 12-12:30), Tuesday 9-8 (lunch 12-1), Thursday 9-8 (lunch 12-1). OFF: Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
