The notice of the last day to file applications will be posted on the State of Hawaii\'s Civil Service Job Opportunities Listing page of our website.Duties SummaryThis position is located in the Animal Disease Control Branch, Animal Industry Division of the Department of Agriculture, and is responsible for conducting medical, scientific, regulatory activities in the detection, control, and/or eradication of animal diseases, including executing USDA-Hawaii Department of Agriculture Cooperative Agreement Work Plans.Duties and responsibilities include planning, scheduling and conducting veterinary field work in connection with State and cooperative State-Federal-Industry animal disease control and eradication programs; responding to calls from practicing veterinarians, livestock and poultry producers for assistance in investigating disease outbreaks; enforcement of regulations, including those governing interstate and inter-island movement of animals; implementation of emergency disease control plans and other program activities; and performing other related duties as assigned.This position requires inter-island and out-of-state travel; and may be required to work overtime, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.Minimum Qualification RequirementsTo qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:Legal Authorization to Work:The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
State of Hawaii Veterinarian License: Applicants must possess either: 1) a valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii; or 2) a valid temporary permit to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii, provided that a permanent license is obtained within the six month probationary period.Note: Applicants who do not currently possess a permanent license or temporary permit to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Hawaii may also apply. If you are selected for a position, the temporary permit must be obtained before starting employment, and a permanent license must be obtained within the six month probationary period.Under this option, you must attach the following documents to your online application as verification of your qualifications:

B. Inspection of meat and meat products intended for human consumption. Also includes evaluation of disease problems and sanitation.
C. Study of the preventive control of animal diseases transmissible from animals to humans.
D. Post graduate research work that has demonstrated the ability to perform independent research in the field of veterinary medicine.
E. Veterinary quarantine work concerning rabies control.Substitutions Allowed:
A. A master\'s degree in a pertinent veterinary field from an accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for one year of Veterinary Experience.
B. A Ph.D. degree in a pertinent veterinary field from an accredited four-year college or university may be substituted for two years of Veterinary Experience.Driver\'s License: Applicants must possess a valid driver\'s license at the time of appointment.Physical Ability: Applicants must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and objects weighing over 40 pounds assisted by another person and/or use of equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation.Federal Criminal History Records Check (SIDA):
In accordance with Federal regulations, persons who are being considered for employment in positions which require unescorted access to secured areas at the airport must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint-based criminal history record check. In order to be granted the Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) clearance, prospective employees must not have been convicted, or found "not guilty by reason of insanity," of a disqualifying criminal offense within ten years from the date of the application. Upon recommendation for hire, prospective employees will be required to successfully undergo the fingerprint-based criminal history record check and be found free of disqualifying convictions during the preceding ten years.
