PURPOSE:
Responsible for development and execution of communication strategies effectively engage both internal and external stakeholders in order to help advance our mission. The Vice President, Corporate Communications will maintain a positive corporate image, enhance the brand reputation through PR and thought leadership, and ensure we deliver clear, consistent, and engaging communication strategies to support the company\'s goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic Communications Management

Leads the development and implementation of strategic and tactical communications initiatives to support the Company\'s mission and annual objectives. Development of executive communications plans that incorporate and align key messages with corporate goals and the mission, vision, and values of CareFirst. Identify opportunities and emerging issues faced by the organization. Work with leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them. Responsible for the strategic positioning and communication strategies of existing product portfolio and creates roadmap for the development and marketing of new product offerings to targeted customer segments.

Internal Communications

Provide vision and consultation on our internal communications strategy and channels to provide a comprehensive and engaging corporate communications content and experience throughout the year for our workforce. Manage alignment and execution of corporate communications strategy through integration with divisions across the wider organization. Create and drive internal communications plan and calendar for stakeholders, integrating their plans into the overall communications calendar. Use internal data points to inform and design initiatives that inspire a highly engaged workforce throughout the company\'s ambitious plans and execute effective communication strategies to inform, engage and inspire employees Partner with leadership of diversity and inclusion and company employee resource groups (ERGs) to promote a culture of inclusion.

External Communications - Corporate and Government Affairs

Serve as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization. Actively engage, cultivate, and manage press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects. Develop and implement program of issues and reputation management in alignment with corporate strategy.

Focus on influencing government policy and legislative direction to improve the regulatory and economic environment in which the organization operates including: Building/maintaining relationships with governments and governmental agencies and other authorities to influence policies and positions. Monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on government policy and legislation (e.g., identifying emerging policy/regulatory trends, developing issues and position papers for presentation to business leadership, etc. ). Educating business leaders and the public about the potential consequences of legislation.

Oversees the strategic and the day-to-day activities of the Department, including directing, coaching, and guiding associates to implement departmental, divisional, and organizational mission/goals. Recruits, retains and develops a high performing team. Evaluates performance of each team member, generates development plans and sets goals within the context of the corporate policies and procedures. Develops annual goals, and prepares, monitors, and analyzes variances of departmental budgets to control and appropriately allocate resources.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
This position manages people.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor\'s Degree

Experience: 12 years in Communications and/or Senior Communications role with 5-7 years of progressive senior leadership development.

Must be able to effectively communicate and provide positive customer service to every internal and external customer, including customers who may be demanding or otherwise challenging.
Salary Range: $197,600 - $296,400
