Position Summary: The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for recruiting and retaining volunteers to support our mission while providing a consistent experience across all volunteer opportunities throughout MANNA.


With more than 3,000 - 5,000 volunteers serving each year, MANNA FoodBank is fortunate to have a very large and diverse volunteer base that is essential to our mission and success. The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator is responsible for cultivating positive relationships with them, looking for opportunities for deepening their engagement and ensuring that their volunteer service is a positive, meaningful experience.
The Volunteer Engagement Coordinator helps create an environment for our volunteer community that fosters a safe, positive, and respectful experience wherein all volunteers-regardless of background, beliefs, or ability-feel accepted and appreciated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit and place volunteers in roles that best align with a volunteer\xe2\x80\x99s interests and skills, including volunteer opportunities in the Volunteer Center, MANNA\xe2\x80\x99s Ambassador Program, on our Helpline, in our Healthy Opportunities Pilot, driving for our mobile markets and others as available.
  • Conduct virtual orientation, training and evaluation protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between skills, qualification, and interest of the volunteers and the needs of the organization
  • Develop strong relationships with new and returning volunteers to ensure a positive experience.
  • In collaboration with resource development, devise strategies for deepening engagement with volunteers.
  • Manages scheduling and placement of court-ordered community service workers and generates weekly reports for appropriate government agencies
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, and execution of MANNA\xe2\x80\x99s special events each calendar year. Events include but are not limited to: Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event, Empty Bowls, Annual Donor Appreciation Event, Mountain State Fair Food Drive, Midnight at MANNA, Student Food Drive, NALC Food Drive, United Way Days of Caring, Ingles Giving Tree, Hops for Hunger, and Key 100 Signature Events.
  • Create and administer annual Volunteer Satisfaction Survey and process, analyze and report results.
  • In partnership with the CDO and Volunteer Center Supervisor, develop and review policies and procedures which guide and support the volunteer program.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality with volunteer/donor personal information and records.
  • When applicable, provides staff and volunteer training on effective utilization of the volunteer management platform.
  • As appropriate, develops and maintains ongoing relationships with Hands on Asheville, schools and universities, faith-based organizations, social services organizations, community clubs, neighborhood organizations, and other organizations in MANNA\'s region.
  • Coordinate and manage the Volunteer Think Tank Group resource folders and monthly meetings
  • Work closely with volunteer program coordinators (VC, HOP, Helpline, Community Markets, Youth Programs) and act as a resource to staff who manage volunteers, assisting with how to effectively manage volunteers.
  • Collect demographics on individuals that may be considered major or planned gift prospects
  • Submit monthly donor perfect reports to Donor Relations Manager



Compensation and Benefits: The salary range for this role is $20.43-21.57/hour depending on skills and experience. MANNA also offers a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision insurance, in addition to short term and long-term disability, 401k with company match up to 3%, 136 PTO hours, paid holidays, lunches, breaks and more!

Travel: Routine moderate travel is required within the service area; occasional overnight travel for conferences or regional meetings. Current driver\xe2\x80\x99s license required; copy of current auto insurance; and clean MVR required. Employee must provide proof of current, valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license with clean driving record.

Schedule: Flexible schedule availability is available; the typical schedule ranges between 8:00 A.M. \xe2\x80\x93 5:00 P.M. Mon.\xe2\x80\x93Fri. with evening and weekend hours as needed.
In instances of a federal, state or locally declared emergency or order, MANNA FoodBank is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called upon to perform regular or emergent duties.
