About the program:
The Lathrop Manteca Fire District utilizes the Reserve Firefighter role to augment our effective emergency staffing strength. The Fire Board has authorized the Fire Chief to fill these ranks with up to 35 members. The LMFD prides itself on having one of the best opportunities available for those that want to serve in this capacity. LMFD Volunteer/Reserve Firefighters are on call 24-hours a day to provide back-up to the fire department at various types of incidents. They are held accountable to LMFD training standards. The reserve program at LMFD is a very exciting and rewarding start to a career in the fire service. Many of our reserves have made careers out of this program. Reserves are a great asset to Lathrop Manteca Fire District and participate as a member of the engine company. This program offers a great opportunity to increase your knowledge and skill level while building your resume in pursuit of a career in the Fire Service.
Examples of Duties
Expectations:
Once accepted, you will be expected to complete the LMFD reserve basic fire academy where you will be exposed to: donning and doffing PPE, pulling hose, basic wildland operation, EMS calls, vehicle accidents and all fire apparatus equipment within the district. Once you graduate the Reserve Academy you will be asked to complete a minimum of two 24-hour shifts a month, attend training once a month and complete online assignments, which will count towards your EMT or paramedic CE\'s. As a member of the reserve program you will be a member of our crews. On your scheduled shifts you will train with the crew, respond to any calls within the district and assist with daily activities.
Fire Chief\'s Expectations:
As a Volunteer/Reserve with Lathrop Manteca Fire District, you will be held to high standards. The community looks to us for assistance in their times of need and we will deliver with care, skill, and compassion no matter the situation. You are to always carry yourself in a professional manner both on and off duty. You are to be a positive individual and be supportive of all matters involving the Fire District. Apply yourself in all aspects that will help improve yourself and the Fire District.
Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
\xc2\xb7 18 Years Old
\xc2\xb7 Class C Drivers License
\xc2\xb7 High School Diploma or GED
Desired Qualifications:
\xc2\xb7 California EMT
\xc2\xb7 Fire Academy Graduate
\xc2\xb7 California State Fire Fighter 1
\xc2\xb7 California DMV Firefighter Endorsement
Any fire experience and education is highly desirable.
Supplemental Information
The Volunteer / Reserve Firefighter is an unpaid position. The Volunteer shall not be entitled to wages or any compensation or benefits based on productivity or hours of service. However, in recognition of the relative sacrifice and expense of volunteering, the District will pay a nominal fee to Volunteer based on the number of \xe2\x80\x9cunits\xe2\x80\x9d that Volunteer accrues for service as a Volunteer / Reserve Firefighter. The nominal fee, which shall be payable at least monthly, is Twenty-Five and 00/100 Dollars ($25.00) per unit accruing as follows:
Training event = 1 unit
Callback service = 1 unit
Half shift = 3 units
Full shift = 6 units
