SUMMARY
The Youth Crisis Peer Support Specialist functions within the scope of practice as established by the Certification of Peer Support Specialist and Optum Idaho Youth Support Endorsement training. As a fully-integrated member of the service delivery team, the Youth Peer Support Specialist will provide support to youth with severe emotional disturbances and/or persistent mental illness. Youth Support Services will promote recovery and resiliency. Youth Peer Support Specialist will assist and support youth in understanding their role in accessing services, becoming informed consumers of services and self-advocacy within a Crisis Center setting.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
\xc2\xb7 Meets with youth who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis modeling recovery and sharing their story of lived experience to connect and engage youth in the recovery process.
\xc2\xb7 Provides services in a context that is youth-centered, and aligns with the specific hopes, goals, strengths and needs of the youth.
\xc2\xb7 Utilizes trauma-informed and strength-based framework that emphasizes physical, psychological, and emotional safety.
\xc2\xb7 Delivers services in a manner that are strengths-based, culturally competent and responsive to each youths individual psychosocial, developmental and treatment care needs.
\xc2\xb7 Serves as a resource to the Pathways Youth Crisis Center team in incorporating recovery strategies and tools into youth interactions, reinforcing an approach of youth self-advocacy in all aspects of recovery planning.
\xc2\xb7 Collaborates with the youth and their family to help youth achieve and maintain their own recovery.
\xc2\xb7 Supports youth in achieving their recovery goals.
\xc2\xb7 Supports and educates the youth in navigating behavioral health systems
\xc2\xb7 Helps youth develop a network of support
\xc2\xb7 Empowers youth to develop skills to improve their overall functioning and quality of life.
\xc2\xb7 Monitors/observes youth for safety such as checking on youth every minute when youth is in the bathrooms, observing youth in the day and sleeping areas, talking with youth in between assessment and discharge, providing support and resources for youth prior to discharge.
\xc2\xb7 Collaborates with youths treatment team to include but not be limited to the youths clinicians, medical physicians, family/social supports, and/or agencies and other programs with which the youth is involved to promote continuation of care.
\xc2\xb7 Maintains confidentiality of all client documents, files and communication in written, electronic and/or verbal form.
\xc2\xb7 Documents all client interactions within designated electronic health records system.
\xc2\xb7 Participate in any in-service training.
\xc2\xb7 Perform other duties as assigned.
